Disk & Storage
vScope stores the history of your IT environment, so the disk space it uses grows over time. History older than five years is removed automatically, so disk usage levels out over time.
This guide shows how to make sure vScope has enough free disk space to keep running discoveries.
Free up disk space
Section titled “Free up disk space”vScope needs at least 10 GB of free disk space on the drive where vScopeData is located to run discoveries. When free disk space gets low, administrators receive an email that shows how much space is left and where vScopeData is located.
-
Find the drive where vScopeData is located. The path is shown in the email.
-
Increase the size of the drive, or remove files that do not belong to vScope from it. An additional 20 GB usually gives plenty of room for growth.
-
Wait for vScope to notice the change. vScope checks the free disk space every hour, and administrators receive an email when discoveries can run again.
Automatic Removal of History When Disk Space Is Low
Section titled “Automatic Removal of History When Disk Space Is Low”If disk space is not freed up, vScope automatically removes the oldest history to make room for new data, so that discoveries can keep running:
- It starts when discoveries have been blocked by low disk space for 72 hours.
- History is removed during the following night, between midnight and 06:00 server local time.
- The oldest history is removed first, until there is enough free disk space again. The most recent 6 months of history are always kept.
- Removed history cannot be restored.
- Administrators receive a daily email while discoveries are blocked, and another one after history has been removed.
- Discoveries start again at their next scheduled time.
