How do I collect Extended Properties from Microsoft SQL Server?
SQL Server lets you attach custom metadata to databases and other objects as Extended Properties (for example an owner, a cost center, or a version string). vScope can collect these values as tags using Tags from data source.
- Make sure your Microsoft SQL Server data source has been successfully inventoried by vScope.
- Go to Tags > Created from data source and click Create Tag.
- Set Asset type to Databases and From data source to MS SQL.
- Under Value from, open the dropdown. Your Extended Properties are listed under the Extended Properties heading, each with an example value.
- Select the property, give the tag a clear Name, and choose the expected format.
- Click Save.
- Run a new discovery of the SQL Server so the tag is populated.
Extended Properties are specific to Microsoft SQL Server, so this option is only available for MS SQL Databases.
Once populated, the tag can be added as a column in the Databases table, used in filters, reports and dashboards.
