History
Every time vScope runs a Discovery, it captures a snapshot of every asset’s state — all tag values, relations, and user-managed tag values at that moment. These snapshots are collectively called History.
History turns vScope from a point-in-time inventory into a change-aware record: you can see not just what your environment looks like now, but how it got there.
One snapshot per Discovery
Section titled “One snapshot per Discovery”Each Discovery produces one History entry per asset. The entry records the full state of that asset at the time of the run — including discovered tags, user-managed tags, and relations. Over time, the sequence of entries forms a complete change log for every asset vScope has ever seen, including assets that have been added or removed from your environment.
What History enables
Section titled “What History enables”History is what makes vScope useful over time rather than just at a single point in time. In tables, you can open any two Discovery snapshots side-by-side to see exactly what changed — which values were added, removed, or modified. Dashboards can draw on historical data to surface trends, such as how asset counts or tag values have developed over months or years. The Tracker watches History continuously and surfaces changes automatically, so you don’t have to compare manually. You can also drill into any individual asset to follow how its properties have evolved across Discoveries through time.
Retention
Section titled “Retention”vScope stores three years of History by default. Depending on your agreement, this can be extended to five or in some cases ten years.
