Adding Data Sources

Objective: Add a data source so vScope can discover assets from it.

  • Role: Admin permissions
  • Network: Targets reachable from vScope or a Discovery Proxy.
  • Inputs: Correct credential (e.g., AD/Entra, VMware, SNMP, LDAP WinRM/SSH) and target IP/host/range.
  1. Open Discovery from the sidebar.
  2. Add Credential → choose source. Fill username/secret and click the lightning bolt to Test. Save and leave it enabled.
  3. Add Targets (IP, hostname, or range). Assign a Proxy if the segment isn’t reachable directly.
  4. Start discovery (Summary → Start, or pick a schedule from the dropdown).
  5. Review results in Summary; open Log History to find details if something failed.

When discovery finds additional platforms, they are categorized as Smart Targets (Targets with a green badge). Attach a credential once to cover all of that platform type automatically. See Generating Smart Targets.

Discovery → SettingsExclude assets from discovery to skip IPs/hosts/ranges or limit to certain protocols (HTTP, Windows, SSH). Integrated sources (vCenter, Azure, Nutanix, SCCM, AD) must be excluded inside their credential.

  • Confirm new assets appear in Tables, or seaching and viewing them in Properties.
  • If empty or partial, retest the credential, check firewalls/ports, or review Log History.
  • Need reach to remote sites? Set up a Discovery Proxy.
