What Generates Smart Targets?

vScope has built-in intelligence to optimize Discovery coverage through the use of Smart Targets. When vScope discovers assets, it identifies related systems and classifies them as potential targets for specific platforms. By automatically generating these Smart Targets, vScope broadens inventory scope without requiring additional manual input.

Note

Targets reported from other data sources are never explicitly listed in your discovery scope, only as the green Smart Target representation (e.g., All Windows).

Each data source or protocol in vScope can generate Smart Targets, enabling vScope to find additional assets within your environment:

Customize Smart Target Creation

For some credentials (e.g., LDAP), you can configure whether the credential is allowed to contribute to Smart Target creation or not.
