Adding Data Sources
Once vScope is set up, you can start collecting assets across your network and from various data sources. This is managed in Discovery on the sidebar. vScope continuously collects asset data based on the targets and credentials configured in Discovery. You can customize discovery schedules to control when data sources are inventoried and use Discovery Proxies to reach assets in closed networks or remote locations.
Adding Data Sources to vScope
Credentials
Credentials are required to connect to data sources or directly to assets on your network. vScope automatically selects the appropriate credential type for each data source.
You can adjust credential settings, such as which assets to inventory and the port to use. To test a credential on specific targets before saving, click the Test icon (lightning bolt) to check connectivity. After saving, you can enable or disable each credential to control whether it’s used in Discovery.
Targets
Targets define the hostnames, IP addresses, or IP ranges where data sources can be found. You can assign targets to Proxies if vScope needs to access them via a proxy. Disabling a target excludes it from Discovery.
Smart Targets
During inventory, additional targets may be discovered and classified as Smart Targets (shown with a green badge). This allows you to assign credentials dynamically to all identified assets of a certain type, such as Microsoft SQL servers, making asset discovery more comprehensive.

Scheduling Discoveries
By default, vScope uses the Main Schedule for all credentials and targets. However, you can create custom schedules to inventory specific data sources at set intervals.
Important: The Main Schedule includes all credentials and targets not assigned to other schedules.
Reviewing Discovery Results
The Summary section provides an overview of each discovery’s results, helping with troubleshooting and monitoring overall performance. To initiate a discovery, click Start Discovery in the Summary. For detailed insights into recent discoveries, see Log History for logs on successes and failures.
Now that everything is set up, start your first discovery and begin collecting assets from the added data sources!
