Import Tags from XLSX

The Import from file feature allows you to import tag values into vScope from an XLSX file. This is useful when you have asset documentation saved in an external source—often manually—such as an Excel spreadsheet. The imported tag values are treated as Manual since no rules determine which assets they are assigned to.

Here is a quick walkthrough of how it’s done:

In this example, we’ll import tag values into the vScope tag “Location” for Machine assets. The tag currently has no values in vScope, but we already have the correct values documented in an XLSX file, which we’ll use for the import.

Start by uploading your XLSX document to vScope.

  1. Go to Tags > Import from file.
  2. Select and upload your XLSX file.
  3. Click Next.
  1. Select the Asset type the information applies to—for example, All Machines.
  2. Define the Matching rules between tags in vScope and columns in the XLSX file. For example, match the “Name” column in the XLSX file with the Name tag in vScope, or use MAC Address as the identifier.
  1. Choose the column in the file from which vScope will retrieve values.
  2. Assign those values to an existing tag in vScope, or create a new tag. In this case, we’ll create a new tag called “Location”.

In the final step, review the changes before confirming the import. If there are warnings, you can address them as needed.

Click Confirm, and you’re done! The tag values will now be available in vScope. You can view them in a Table or in the right-hand sidebar under Properties. You can also delete tag values directly from these views if needed.
