Removing Assets from vScope

vScope automatically considers assets as active for up to 30 days after their last discovery. This default setting is particularly useful for scenarios like client inventory using WinRM, where devices (e.g., laptops) may not be accessible for extended periods but are still in use.

However, there are cases where discontinued or decommissioned assets need to be removed. Here’s how to handle these scenarios.

Automatically Removing Assets

To mark assets as “removed” more quickly:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Discovery > Advanced Options.
  2. Adjust the setting for Automatic Removal of Elements to a shorter duration, such as 1 day.
  3. Run a new Discovery.

Key Notes:

  • Removed assets are not permanently deleted. Instead, they are marked as “gone” but remain accessible in vScope’s history for reference.
  • This ensures you can still browse historical data about assets, even after they are no longer considered active.

Virtual Assets

For virtual machines, vScope relies on information reported by platforms like VMware or Hyper-V. If these platforms continue to report the existence of a VM, it will remain listed in vScope.

To remove a virtual machine:

  • Ensure it is deleted or no longer reported by the virtualization platform. vScope will automatically mark the asset as removed upon next discovery.
