Why are windows machines missing Auto Update values?

There can be multiple reasons why machines are missing Auto Update values. The first thing you need to ensure is that the machine is inventoried with the WMI/WinRM probe. If it is you need to make sure that the machine have Auto Update information available and that the credential is allowed to read it.

Auto update information is not patch data, so that’s why it’s possible to have full information about patches and no auto update options. Patch data is installed updates and auto update information is how the auto update is configured.

vScope retrieves this data from the registry in:

\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\

vScope requires a value for AUoptions in either of them.

The easiest way to check this is to use the regedit and look directly in the registry:

One of them must contain AUOptions with a value:

All information for the auto update tags in vScope are found in these registries so if a value is missing this is where to look.
